Master Aesthetician Patricia at Red Lotus Skin Peel salon in Portland, Oregon, talks about what to expect for a light peel. " Many new clients are very concerned when they see peeling or flaking as well as they may become concerned if they don't peel. Rest assured both are to be expected and normal after a so called peel. The goal with a light peel is to talk to the skin with ingredients that encourage the skin to start cellular turnover and healthy growth. Sometimes to get acne, dry skin and rough skin as well as pigment out of the skin layers that are deeper, we must go through a light peel. Peels gets the skin to shed these issues by flaking them away. Please do not confuse this with dry skin. Dry skin is accompanied by red and tight skin that feels like it will crack. But light flaking is good and a gentle enzyme and a few days will do the trick. Please be patient, do not rush the process. Sometimes the skin need a week to shed sometimes a few days. This all depends on the build up you have going on. I have many a new client call me upset that the skin is flaking. We must remember to change the skin we must take off with the old layers and up with the new. Another thing clients mention is "my skin did not peel at all" this too can be normal. One it depends on where in your growth cycle you are, two you may have peeled recently and the skin just needs less peeling now but the deeper skin changes are happening like lightening and collagen building. I will leave you with one encouragement, be patient, go slow and do not quit. I see 1 out of 10 clients who really want to change their skin condition but hesitate with the process and are discouraged. Each person who followed the peel process and stuck with it where extremely happy with the results no one else could get for them."
