Lash extensions, what to ask for with lash extensions from Master Aesthetician Patrician Barnett at Red Lotus Skin Care in Portland, Or.Read Now
Always check and see if your lash technician is really trained and certified in lash extensions. Then see what kind of glue they use and what type of eye protections they use. Quality eye pads and careful taping are a must to really protect your eye from possible mistakes. The average time a lash extension can take is 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour for an experienced technician (some difficult cases can require longer). Remember to really talk about the look of your lashes. Longer is not always as important as volume and volume is really what gives you the "wow you don't have mascara on? " effect. Ask if your technician knows how to put bottom lashes on. They look amazing and you just need a few in the outer corner for effect. Bottom lashes are worth the extra few minutes and extra charge. If your have problems with your extensions your technician should be there for you and prompt communication is important. Remember, you get what you pay for. Lash extensions are a tedious process an only a trained technician should be doing it. So pay for the quality of work, products, sanitation, and eye protection you deserve. You only have one set of eyes.
Here's some information about Lash Extensions:
What makes "Mink" eyelash extensions look so amazing?
Mink lashes are really superior in the sense that they have this really fluffy, natural look. Even regular extensions applied lash by lash can have a strip-esque look, because they're made by machines. The mink ones, because they're made of hair, take on their own natural look. There's basically no way for anyone to tell they're not real.

What are eyelash extensions?
Not to be confused with the self-stick strip falsies or individual clusters of lashes knotted together and glued with gentle formula glue and last a day. Permanent, synthetic, lash extensions are glued one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) by using a specially formulated surgical glue that lasts the life of the lash, 4 to 6 weeks. Eyelash extensions are a new beauty service in the United States which originated in Korea. Single synthetic eyelashes are applied to your own natural eyelash to achieve a beautiful full luscious and long set of lashes that are natural and you won't even know they are there.
Should I be careful who applies the eyelash extensions and should they be trained?
Absolutely! We cannot stress the importance of choosing an eyelash technician who has been taught by a qualified and experienced person. There are many eyelash extension operators who are claiming to have been professionally trained but have been self taught via the internet and these operators are also using poor quality products. This is disastrous and we are having more and more distressed ladies contacting us for help and advice as they have had a bad experience by one of the many self taught people. Please do your research thoroughly and ask many questions.
Who wears eyelash extensions?
Anyone who is tired of curling, mascaraing and smudging. Normal everyday ladies love eyelash extensions and can't bear to be without them. Red Lotus Skin Care clients include nurses, therapists, surgeons, dentists, lawyers, financial advisers, mom's, detectives, dancers, business owners, nail technicians, forensic chemists, university students, hairdressers, police women and many more wonderful ladies who enjoy how amazing their lashes look now.
How are the eyelash extensions applied?
A single natural eyelash is isolated and a synthetic lash is glued to the top of your own natural eyelash approximately 1mm from the eyelid so neither the glue or the lash has contact with the skin.
How long does the application take?
The procedure will take approximately 1 hour for a full set and approximately 45 minutes for a half set and 1 hour for an in-fill. It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration by our technicians, therefore, it should not be rushed so that clients can leave with a perfect set of lashes. You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Often clients are so relaxed they fall asleep.
Can I do eyelash extensions myself?
No. Eyelash extensions can only be applied by a trained professional.
How are the lower lashes held down?
We use soft under eye pads specifically designed for eyelash extensions.
Do eyelash extensions make my own lashes fall out?
First I would suggest to always be screened by your tech to see if your health is a match for lash extensions. Then it is important to have your lash extensions applied by a qualified technician who uses to quality products. The eyelash has a cycle and are constantly being replaced like your hair. If you pull so hard on an extension lash and pull out your own natural lash there will be no new lash ready to grow to take its place and you will have to wait 6-8 weeks for that lash to grow.
