However, you smile is part of what we all enjoy and find beautiful. Here is a tip about your teeth. Chewing on IceChewing ice is a seemingly harmless, unconscious habit but can cause permanent damage to our teeth with small cracks. These cracks can grow larger over time and ultimately cause a tooth to fracture. Opt for chilled water or drinks without ice to resist the urge.
During the summer, our skin can become dry, dehydrated and the damaging rays of the sun can speed up the aging process, so how can facials help?Read Now
At Red Lotus Skin and Lash Salon we offer and abundance of fall pumpkin facials, located in Beaverton, Oregon. So when the weather gets dry and cool during the winter months, it is probably the best time of the year to rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin.
Pumpkin is beneficial all year around. However, as autumn arrives and "pumpkin fever" takes over, there are many spas that feature the ilike Pumpkin treatments for this special season. But this is not only beneficial for marketing purposes. Mother Nature takes care of us in a very thoughtful way and the abundance of pumpkin at this time of year may not be simply coincidental.
Pumpkin is very rich in skin health boosting nutrients. The most important amongst them are the alpha and beta carotenes. Carotenes are the orange pigments in the vegetable that act as important anti-oxidants that boost immunity and slow the degenerative process of aging by protecting the cells from damage caused by free radicals. Beta carotenes generate Vitamin A in the body that ensures proper immune functions. Other vitamins pumpkins are rich in are Vitamin C and E, both with antioxidant functions to benefit tired, stressed skin. The vegetable also provides Vitamin B5 (Panthotenic Acid) that balances hormone levels and manages stress. Pumpkin is a good source of lutein, an antioxidant that absorbs blue light and protects from oxidative stress. Fatty acids, potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron are important nutrients that pumpkin provides the skin to balance fluid levels, sooth and soften the skin and help in the cell regenerating process. Pumpkin also has a relatively low pH that protects the skin from bacteria and infections.
Pumpkin is the main ingredient in the ilike Pumpkin & Orange Mask and Hydrating Pumpkin Body Wrap. We use cold processed, whole raw pumpkin pulps (instead of extracts) in order to retain the full benefit of the vegetable and keep all nutrients in the rawest form for better absorption.
The ilike organic skin care pumpkin products effectively treat aging, loose, lack of circulation and dry skin -- both on the face and the body -- to hydrate, soften and elasticize. They rejuvenate tired, stressed skin and create a healthy glow. They also smooth the skin by promoting cell turnover, thus preventing the skin from getting dry, scaly or rough.
Whole. Raw. Real.

SPF is mandatory during summer time for every skin type but what about winter? Often times we think "since the sun isn't out, there is no need for SPF." Just because we can't see the sun sometimes, does not mean it's not there. SPF is mandatory all year round because even when the clouds cover it, it can still have damaging effects on the skin.
Characterized by persistent facial redness and bumps or pimples and often mistaken for acne or skin allergies, rosacea can be emotionally and physically painful to sufferers, particularly women.
According to a new survey by the National Rosacea Society (NRS), 58 percent of respondents with rosacea said that they would be willing to modify their lifestyle by giving up shopping or eating out at restaurants for six months or longer, if it were possible to get rid of their rosacea forever.
Why is rosacea so damaging to self-esteem and self-image? Rosacea has two types: papulopustular and vascular. People with papulopustular rosacea get noticeable red and pus-filled bumps that resemble acne scattered across the mid-face. Vascular rosacea is characterized by a permanent flushing and redness of the face. Any change in appearance that doesn't fit with the American ideal can make people feel embarrassed and bad about themselves -- and because rosacea occurs on the face, it is a condition that is hard to hide.
Identifying what type of rosacea is key. Both are treated very gently to help with hydration but when dealing with papulopustular, has to be treated to help the pustules. For more information about treatments and other options please see our website atwww.redlotusskincaresalon.com

Here is an easy, great recipe that was given to us by one of our clients.
Minutes to make, packed with protein, moist, gluten free, sugar-free and totally delicious.
Peanut Butter Blender Muffins*
1 medium ripe banana, peeled
1 large egg
Heaping 1/2 c creamy store-bought peanut butter
3 tbsp honey (agave or maple syrup may be substituted)
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp baking soda
Heaping 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
*For double chocolate peanut butter muffins add 1/3 c unsweetened cocoa powder before blending.
Preheat oven 400F. Generously grease mini muffin tins. Add everything but chocolate chips to blender, whirl on high til smooth, 1 min. Add chips, stir by hand. Using tbsp or small cookie scoop, sprayed with cooking spray, form round mounds, put in cups to 3/4 full. Bake 7-9 min (watch closely, don't burn), til tops are springy and toothpick inserted in center comes out (mostly) clean. Cool in pans, til set and cool enough to touch. Eat warm.
*If you are allergic to peanuts, Patricia recommends substituting half hemp seed and half coconut oil and a tbsp of dark baking cocoa powder.
